Introduction
There is a cheap night out downtown this week, a traveling puppet show that has no business being this good, and the zoo adding a new trail right as Halloween season kicks into gear. There are also a couple of numbers worth knowing if you are anywhere near a buying or selling decision. Here is what is on my radar for October 5 through October 11.
The Thunder Play A Preseason Game Wednesday At Paycom Center
The Thunder host the Milwaukee Bucks in a preseason game this Wednesday, October 7, at Paycom Center, with tickets starting at $6. That is Thunder basketball at preseason prices, which is about as cheap as a night out downtown gets before the real season tips off. (OKC Events)
Bread And Puppet Circus Brings Giant Puppets To The Farmers Public Market
The Bread and Puppet Circus hits the OKC Farmers Public Market Saturday, October 10, at 4pm. Expect stilt dancers, a brass band, and giant papier mache puppets as part of a traveling show that blends slapstick and street theater. It is $20 at the door as a donation, and the organizers say no one is turned away for lack of funds. If you have never seen this kind of performance, the Stockyards area is about the last place you would expect to find it, which is exactly why it is worth the trip. (Hoodline)
Haunt The Zoo Opens Saturday With A New Trail
Haunt the Zoo opens Saturday, October 10, and runs weekends through October 25. This year adds a new Expedition Africa trick or treat trail that takes kids past the giraffes, lions, and zebras while they collect candy. Treat bags are $10 and capped at 2,500 per event date, so get there early if your kids want in. (Hoodline)
Mortgage Rates Climb To 7.28 Percent
Mortgage rates jumped again this week, with the 30 year fixed now averaging 7.28 percent, up from 7.03 percent last week. That is the highest it has been since November 2023. If you are shopping right now, that jump is worth a real conversation before you assume you are priced out. (Fox Business, citing Freddie Mac’s Primary Mortgage Market Survey)
Our Own Market Tells A Calmer Story
Our own metro numbers are calmer than that national headline. The median sale price in Oklahoma City is sitting at $274,818, down slightly from a year ago, homes are taking about 36 days to sell, and the number of homes sold in August was actually up 3.1 percent from last year. Translation: buyers still have room to negotiate, and sellers need a real pricing plan behind their listing, not just last year’s comps. (Redfin, August 2026)
Let's Just Tell It Like It Is
Cheap Thunder tickets and a new trail at the zoo, there is no excuse to stay home this week. If any of this has you thinking about what is next, whether that is buying, selling, or just figuring out what your house is worth with rates doing this, I’ll listen first, then we’ll figure out the plan together. You don’t have to be an expert on any of it. That’s my job.
