Week of September 1

“Troy, what’s actually going on around here?” It’s a question worth asking most weeks, whether you’re deciding if it’s worth going out this weekend or just looking for an excuse to leave the house. So here’s my answer for the week ahead: four things worth your time, plus a quick read on where the housing market actually stands right now.

The Paseo Throws Its Monthly Party

First Fridays on the Paseo happens this Friday, September 4, and if you’ve never been, this is the one to start with. More than 80 artists show work across 25 galleries and businesses in that stretch between NW 27th and 30th, all within walking distance of each other. It’s not a stuffy gallery-opening kind of night; it’s refreshments, live entertainment, and enough foot traffic that you’ll run into someone you know. This is one of those things that makes people fall in love with living in the OKC metro instead of just passing through it. (VisitOKC)

A Comedy Heavyweight Lands at Bricktown

Felipe Esparza, the “Last Comic Standing” winner behind the Netflix special “Bad Decisions,” is playing multiple shows at Bricktown Comedy Club from September 4 through 6. Comedy shows like this move fast once word gets out, so if you’re thinking about a date night or a night out with friends, grab tickets now instead of Saturday afternoon. (Bricktown Comedy Club)

Vintage Lovers Get a Whole Convention Center

Saturday, September 5, the Time Travelers Vintage Expo takes over the OKC Convention Center downtown starting at 10 am. Vintage clothing, jewelry, and collectibles from dealers all over, all under one roof. If you’re the type who’d rather find a one-of-a-kind piece than order the same thing as everyone else on Amazon, block out your Saturday morning. Bring cash, and give yourself a few extra minutes for parking downtown. (Showpass)

Live Music at Tower Theatre

GoldFord brings its “Space of the Heart” tour to Tower Theatre on Saturday, September 5, at 8 pm. Tower is one of my favorite venues in the whole metro; that Uptown 23rd stretch has turned into a genuine destination, and a show like this is a good excuse to grab dinner nearby and make a night of it. What's Actually Happening in the Housing Market

I’d be doing you a disservice if I only talked about events and skipped what’s happening with actual homes. Right now, the OKC metro market is sitting in a pretty balanced spot: median list price is running around $235,000, up roughly 2% from a year ago, homes are averaging about five weeks on market, and roughly 2% are selling over asking. Translation: this isn’t a market where either buyers or sellers have a clear upper hand. It’s steady. If you’ve been sitting on the fence wondering which way the wind is blowing, that’s your answer: nobody’s getting run over right now, but nobody’s getting a steal either. (The Luxury Playbook)

Let's Just Tell It Like It Is

This is why I love this city, there’s always something going on if you know where to look, and half the fun is just showing up. If any of this gets you thinking about a move, whether that means moving closer to family, moving into a different school district, or downsizing into something that makes more sense for this season of life, I’m around. I’ll listen first, then we’ll figure out the plan together. You don’t have to be an expert on any of it. That’s my job.
