Week of October 26

There is one last night of trick or treating at Scissortail Park, the park’s farmers market closes out its season Saturday morning, Halloween builds from a neighborhood Harvest on Friday straight through trick or treating citywide Saturday night, a free Day of the Dead celebration closes the week Sunday, and mortgage rates finally did something they had not done in over two months. Here is everything on my radar for October 28 through November 1, and what each one actually means if you are anywhere near a buying or selling decision.

ScaryTale Park's Last Night Is Tonight

Scissortail Park’s new Halloween event, ScaryTale Park, wraps up tonight, Wednesday, October 28, from 4 to 9pm, with admission closing at 8:30. It is a trick or treat trail built around the Children’s Playground and Scissortail Lake, with sets and scenes based on classics like Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, and Sleepy Hollow, plus a couple of newer stops set in a swamp and a Day of the Dead scene. General admission runs $10 for kids ages 3 to 16 and $3 for adults, with park members and kids 2 and under getting in free. The whole thing is a fundraiser for the Scissortail Park Foundation.

If you have been meaning to take the kids, tonight is the only night left. It is a low stress, downtown option if you want to skip a longer drive out to a neighborhood trick or treat night. (VisitOKC)

Scissortail's Farmers Market Closes Out The Season Saturday

The Farmers Market at Scissortail Park runs every Saturday from May through October, and this Saturday, October 31, from 9am to 1pm, is the last one of the 2026 season. It is a producer only market, meaning everything sold has to be homegrown, handmade, or made by a locally owned Oklahoma operation, covering produce, bakery goods, meats, and artisan products.

If you want fresh bread, something local for your Halloween table, or just one more Saturday morning walking the park before the season closes, this is it. It will not run again until next spring. (Scissortail Park)

Halloween Builds All Weekend Long

Halloween activity ramps up through the back half of the week. Pitts Community Center hosts Halloween Harvest on Friday, October 30, from 5 to 7:30pm, a free, come and go event with treats, games, music, crafts, and what the city is calling “glowing surprises.” Then trick or treating hits the whole metro Saturday night, October 31. Oklahoma City does not set official start or end times for trick or treating, so families pick their own window, and residents handing out candy are encouraged to leave the porch light on.

Between ScaryTale Park tonight, Halloween Harvest Friday, and trick or treating Saturday, there is a low key option for pretty much every night this week if you have kids. (News 9)

Day Of The Dead Closes Out The Week Sunday

The week closes on a different note Sunday, November 1, with Festival de Vida y Muerte at Scissortail Park, running noon to 8pm at the park’s Love’s Travel Stage and Great Lawn. It is a free, all ages Day of the Dead celebration with community ofrendas, a cultural market, live music, dancing, and food.

It is a slower, more reflective way to close out a week built mostly around candy and costumes, and it is worth the trip even if you have never been to one before. (MetroFamily Magazine)

Mortgage Rates Finally Cracked This Week

Here is the number worth knowing. Mortgage rates dipped to 7.32 percent on a 30 year fixed for the week of October 22, the first decline after nine straight weeks of either climbing or holding at the highest level since late 2023. For context, that streak had pushed rates from 7.03 percent at the start of October up to 7.4 percent, where they sat for two weeks straight before this small pullback.

One week is not a trend, and I am not going to tell you it is time to jump just because the number finally moved the right direction. But if you have been sitting on the sidelines because rates felt like they only went one way, this is the first real crack in that streak, and it is worth a real conversation, not just a passing thought. Let's Just Tell It Like It Is

One last night at the park, a farmers market wrapping its season, Halloween built in from Friday through Saturday night, a free cultural festival to close it out Sunday, and rates finally cracking after nine weeks, there is no excuse to stay home this week. Whether this is the week rates move you off the sidelines, or you just want to know what a number like that actually means for your plans, I’ll listen first, then we’ll figure out the plan together. You don’t have to be an expert on any of it. That’s my job.
